A different kind of wrap up

This year I decided to do a wrap up every 3 months, instead of a monthly wrap up. It also makes it easier when I have a slow month. This way I can have a nice little list every 3 months. I’m not a fast reader at all, so I alway find my lists very small compared to others. My list though I find are ones that I enjoy.

A Torch Against the Night // Sabaa Tahir

5 out of 5 stars

This was my first 5 star read of the year and it deserves all the stars. Sabaa Tahir just knows how to torture her readers in the best way. Torch is a transition story, but it still is packed with all the things I love about Tahir. I won’t go into it too much since it is the second book in the series, but I highly recommend to pick up An Ember in the Ashes if you haven’t done it already.

The Bear in the Nightingale // Katherine Arden

4 out of 5 stars

This is a one of the 12 books I wanted to get to this year. It has been on my shelves for awhile and I finally gave it ago. I will say this it was very slow paced for my taste. In the beginning I almost wanted to give up and pick something else. A friend though said I should just keep going, that it would be worth it in the end. And I agree, even though it is slow paced, the world building is fantastic. I still think about the world and how well Arden just transported me. I definitely plan on picking up the rest of the trilogy this year. You can check out my full review here.

Becoming // Michelle Obama

5 out of 5 stars

I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it. Michelle Obama herself reads it and it feels personal like she is just talking to you. She is the definition of a first lady, she knows how to empower, but also remind the reader that she is just a regular person. A person who has lived a crazy life, but a person nonetheless. I loved hearing about her life before she was the first lady and also loved hearing her feeling about her husband being the President. Its overall a wonderful read.

The Smoke Thieves // Sally Green

4 out of 5 stars

I also have a full review that you can check out here. Here is a quick review though. There are a lot of point of views and it does take a minute to see how they all connect. What I really enjoyed were the action scenes, they were detailed and I could picture them clearly in my head. The characters were also good, I really like Tash I felt she has some of the best lines and I can’t wait to see what happen nexts in the next book. Her line, “No, this is a figment of your imagination and I’ve been sitting on my are all day eating honey.” Is still one that has stuck with me.

“No, this is a figment of your imagination and I’ve been sitting on my are all day eating honey.” -Tash

Empire of Storms // Sarah J. Maas

5 out of 5 stars

This was a reread for me, I remember liking it the first time, but not really loving it. This time around though I was hooked and loved it. It actually reminded me how much I actually really enjoy her Throne of Glass series. Now that it is done I plan on starting Tower of Dawn pretty soon and moving on to Kingdom of Ash.

The Bone Season // Samantha Shannon

4 out of 5 stars

This was a weird one for me, I felt like the chapters were filled to the brim and took forever for me to get through. It might have felt like it took forever, but I really enjoyed the characters of this story.  Shannon knows how to write intriguing characters and made me want to know know about them. Also the ending sealed the deal for me, I had more questions than answers and definitely want to get to the next one in the series. If you want a full review check it out here.

The Tea Dragon Society // Katie O’Neill

5 out of 5 stars

This little comic came in an Owlcrate. I totally forgot to take a picture of if, but I absolutely adored this comic and now want everything by Katie O’Neill. This was the perfect little read after the Bone Season. It is full of beautiful art and has such a cute message. I now want my own little tea dragon. Definitely give this one a go.

The Cruel Prince // Holly Black

4 out of 5 stars

This was another reread because I felt like I remembered nothing from the first time I read it. This was another one that I remembered liking, but only thought it was okay. This time though I realized one I remembered more than I thought and I liked it way more this time around. The Wicked King is one I hope to get to it soon.

Impulse // Ellen Hopkins

5 out of 5 stars

This was my first Ellen Hopkins read and I was blown away. I inhaled it pretty quickly compared to other reads. At first felt that it was a little flip floppy with the love interest, but it wasn’t long before I was really truly into it. The ending wasn’t completely a surprise but I was still shocked.

Tricks // Ellen Hopkins

4 out of 5 stars

After Impulse I jumped right into Tricks. Now this one I liked, but not as much as Impulse. Some of the characters were questionable and I couldn’t get into as much as the ones from Impulse. What I will say is I like how Hopkins handles the serious content of her stories. This makes me want to read more from her.

Shadowland (the Mediator #1) // Meg Cabot

4 out of 5 stars

I read the Mediator series when I was younger. It is one that I always remember really loving. So when I saw it on Book Outlet for a good price I jumped at the opportunity. I can say that I really still enjoyed it and want to get my hands on the rest of the series. I also feel like there really isn’t anything like it out there still.

The Way I Used to Be // Amber Smith

3 out of 5 stars

This is another story with very series content. I liked it but felt like the author wanted to be a bit more serious, but wasn’t allowed to. The main character was one that I wanted to sympathize with, but at times really questioned her.
