Owlcrate January 2019 unboxing

In advance, I want to say sorry for the lack of close up photos. For some odd reason, I have no idea what I did with them, but I still wanted to get this post up.

January’s theme was Magical Artifacts

What I love about Owlcrate are the unique items that they include in their boxes. In this box, we have an antler bracket inspired by Shadow of Bone. It’s super fitting with the recent release of King of Scars. 

One of my favorite collaborators they have had multiple times is Juniper & Ivy Designs. In this box, they included a wooden letter opener made for the Lord of the Rings fan. Being a fan of the trilogy this really excited me. I originally thought it was a bookmark, but I think I might still use it as one.

Socks, one can never have too many pairs of socks. These are a collaboration between Team Owlcrate and Michelle Grey. These are a nice pair and a welcome addition to my collection.

Pouches I think are standard for pretty much all book boxes and as someone that uses pouches daily, I can never have too many and I like to mix them up pretty regularly. This one designed by Stella Bookish Art is inspired by the Shades of Magic Series by VE Schwab.

Wall Tapestries are always nice, but I don’t really have a place to hang them. For now, they are just waiting to be displayed. This one from Holly Dunn Design was inspired by the Golden Compass.

For 2019 Owlcrate is starting to send exclusive enamel pins with every box. Now I have a love of pins that is almost as strong as my love of books. So receiving an enamel pin in every box is super exciting. The one in January’s box ties in with the theme of the box, a gorgeous wolf. January’s pin was in collaboration with Alchemy and Ink.

Now for the book for January. The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi is one that I have been waiting for and was hoping would be the one picked for January. 

The Gilded Wolves Synopsis:

Paris, 1889: The world is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. In this city, no one keeps tabs on secrets better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier, Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. But when the all-powerful society, the Order of Babel, seeks him out for help, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.

To find the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin will need help from a band of experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian who can’t yet go home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in all but blood, who might care too much.

Together, they’ll have to use their wits and knowledge to hunt the artifact through the dark and glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the world, but only if they can stay alive.

I’ve read Chokshi’s debut The Star Touched Queen when it first came out and loved it. She has a way of transporting her readers into the most beautiful mystical worlds. So when I heard about The Gilded Wolves I was instantly excited. I love me a ragtag group of characters and this is right up my alley. I’m so excited for it that I plan on moving it up on my TBR for February.
